Energy, Climate Change and Sustainability

This chapter is part of the “Climate Change: A Multidisciplinary View” volume. This book represents an essential compendium that addresses the complexity of climate change through an inherently interdisciplinary approach. The work’s structure shows an effort to transcend traditional disciplinary boundaries, offering a rigorous and multifaceted overview of this global phenomenon. All the contributions are based on findings that have been disseminated in high-impact publications and that, as a whole, enrich the debate that is characteristic of science and necessary to advance knowledge in this field. The volume begins with a contextualizing introduction, delves into the historical roots and probable origin of current climate change, and then examines its foundations from climatology and meteorology, exploring the interconnections between energy, climate, and sustainability. The work then extends its analysis to the biological consequences, with special attention to the relationship between climate change and vector-borne diseases. In addition to the natural and health sciences, the volume incorporates humanistic and social perspectives, through which the philosophical dimensions of the problem are examined, culminating in a reflection on the need for a new environmental education adapted to contemporary challenges.
